Pet of the Month for June 2021

Tiger is an indoor/outdoor cat that started hiding and not meowing. His owners brought him in to have him assessed. It turned out he had a urinary blockage. Since he does not use a litter box the owners had no clue he was having urinary issues. Thankfully they were concerned enough about the odd behaviors he was exhibiting to bring him in to be checked out. Dr. Farrell discovered the urinary blockage and kept Tiger overnight to treat him. He was very cooperative and loving while in our care. Tiger made a full recovery and is now Hill’s prescription C/D food to keep him from growing the crystals in his bladder that can lead to urinary blockages.

Remi and River are litter mates that were housed together. They are happy, energetic Labrador Retriever mixes. Their owners noticed some GI upset after some yard maintenance where Sago Palms were recently trimmed. Dr. Farrell spoke with their parents and recommended checking some blood work as Sago Palms are very toxic to dogs. Both pets did have acute kidney failure and were put on medication to remedy the issue. They are now both on the road to recovery!

Pet of the Month for April 2021

Meet Garth! Garth was rescued from the New Braunfels Humane Society. He’s a very lovable cat. He likes to be held like a baby or just be in his owner’s lap a lot of the time! He also loves to dig and use her plants as a litter box! Oh Garth! His mom has discovered lately that he’s quite the bird hunter. It’s very difficult to get any reading or painting done when he’s around, but she can always count on him to show love and kindness. Garth was hospitalized with us due to a urinary blockage. Male cats can easily develop obstruction of the urethra which is the tube draining urine from the bladder out of the penis. Obstructions are often the result of plugs of inflammatory material, mucus, crystals, small stones that have formed in the kidneys and have passed down into the bladder. Throughout his stay with us he was loving and cooperative. At this time he has made a full recovery and is on a prescription diet that aids in preventing urinary issues.
