Pet of the Month for October 2020

Meet Princess! Princess recently came to see us at our New Braunfels location for her 2nd round of kitten vaccines! It is important to schedule proper booster vaccinations when your pet is young so that they may have the best protection. We will usually start your pet on a monthly flea and heartworm preventative and check their stool for intestinal parasites, too. We thought that she would be a perfect “Halloween Pet of the Month” due to her unique coloring! She is the sweetest kitty! We are excited to watch her grow!

We check their little hearts, eyes, check for intestinal parasites and much more! We also make sure they are protected with proper vaccinations. Meet Jasper! Jasper was rushed into our New Braunfels location recently because his owners found him non-responsive. Dr. Lauren Casares was there for the emergency and started treatment immediately. It is still undetermined what could have caused his condition but luckily with proper treatment Jasper came back around pretty quickly. He had a few days of strict rest and watch. The owners and Dr. Casares are keeping a close eye on Jasper and so far he is back to his hyper playful self!

Important Message about COVID-19

Dear CanyonVet New Braunfels Clients,

Yesterday, The City of New Braunfels issued a “Stay at Home Order” aka “Shelter in Place Order”.  Because veterinarians are considered an “essential” business, we are allowed to remain open to care for your pets, but in a more limited capacity.

During the Stay at Home Order, only appointments for medical problems will be allowed at the New Braunfels location.  From March 26th to April 8th, we are no longer going to be accepting appointments for Wellness/Annual Exam appointments unless the pet is due for a Rabies vaccine or any portion of their initial puppy/kitten vaccination series.   In order to protect your pet and stay current with state laws, we will allow appointments for due Rabies vaccination, but the pet needs to be due for Rabies before April 8th to qualify.  Puppies and kittens in need of their initial vaccination series will also be allowed.  Other appointments for routine vaccinations, toe nail trims, heartworm tests, new patient exams for healthy pets, etc., will be scheduled no earlier than April 8th.  Any currently scheduled wellness exams of pets prior to April 8th that do not have a current medical condition, are not due for Rabies vaccination by April 8th, and are not receiving their puppy/kitten vaccination series will be called and rescheduled by our staff.

We are also rescheduling any routine surgeries that do not address a critical medical condition.  Routine surgeries are primarily limited to Spays, Neuters, Routine Dental cleanings, and Feline Declaw surgeries.  Dental cleanings for severe dental disease where extractions are indicated to relieve pain and infection will be allowed on a case by case basis as determined by your veterinarian.

We will be rescheduling appointments for Proheart 6/12 injections to no earlier than April 8th.  We recommend purchase of at least a single dose (1 month protection) of Heartgard or Trifexis to provide your pet with heartworm protection during the stay at home order.

The above changes currently only apply to our New Braunfels location.  We are still accepting Wellness Exam appointments and all surgeries at our Canyon Lake and Spring Branch locations where there is currently no “Stay at Home Order” in place.

To promote social distancing, all appointments are currently required to be Curbside Check in.

We are offering a Telemedicine option (email, telephone) for pets with minor medical problems that have been examined by one of our veterinarians within the past 12 months. Normal exam charges apply.

Food and medications can be picked up Curbside.

We have an online pharmacy on our website.

Once again, thanks for all of your patience and understanding as we do our best to provide safety to our clients and staff as well as exceptional care to our patients.  We apologize for any inconvenience these protective measures may cause, but hopefully they will result in everyone getting back to a more normal life as soon as possible.

The CanyonVet Team

Meet sweet Charlotte! She and her K9 siblings recently boarded with us and she got to stay in the Feline Condo! She loved the new cat tree we got and spent most of her day lazing on it and chirping at clients through the windows.  She is a great example of how we try to promote a low stress environment for our feline patients while they are away from home!
